Who we are and what we do
We are Gary and Shelley, and we have a YouTube channel called Change of Plan which is all about the move we made to Portugal and the experience of living there.
We moved to Portugal full-time in 2023 after buying our home two years earlier — and the journey to get here wasn’t easy.
Back then, we struggled to get estate agents to respond, let alone arrange viewings from outside the country. We couldn’t believe how hard it was to find real support for people moving from abroad.
That’s why we started Your Casa Key — to offer the kind of service we wish we’d had: honest, helpful, and tailored to people navigating a major life change.
Now, we help and support people who want to make the move to Portugal - and we help to make the transition easier. We do this through a number of well-priced services to support those doing a ‘DIY’ move, or we refer to our trusted partners for those who want more comprehensive support.

We have an extensive background in Photography, Videography, Property Management and Project Management. We both understand what top notch service should look like, and we are passionate about delivering the very best to our clients!

We live in beautiful Central Portugal, with our main hub being Coimbra where we live with our two dogs Teo and Lana.

Rental Searches for Visas
Can’t fly out to house-hunt? We’ve got you covered. Finding a long-term rental in Portugal that meets visa requirements—like the D7 or digital nomad visa—can be frustrating, especially when you're overseas and agents work very differently than in the US or UK.
That’s where we come in.
You pick the listings you like—we’ll handle the rest.
We contact the agents, schedule the viewings, and visit each property as if we were renting it ourselves. You’ll get honest feedback, detailed photos, videos, and our take on the location, condition, and how well it fits visa criteria.
Once you've found “the one,” we’ll help negotiate the lease—and our trusted immigration lawyer will review your contract to make sure it’s 100% visa compliant.
Prices (5 property viewings in one day):
• Portugal Mainland – €750 + €150 for contract review
• Algarve – €850 + €150 for contract review
Please note - we work on one day of time for the viewings so extra days will be charged for.
Relocation Coaching Calls

We’ll answer your questions, talk through any concerns, and share real insight based on our own experience moving here from the UK.

NIF (Fiscal Number) Purchase
Need a NIF to get started in Portugal? We’ll sort it for you. One of the first steps to moving to Portugal is getting your NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal)—your Portuguese tax number. You’ll need it to open a bank account, sign a rental contract, set up utilities, and apply for your visa.
We offer a secure, efficient NIF service through our trusted Portuguese lawyer, so you don’t have to worry about dealing with the tax office or navigating the paperwork on your own.
This service also includes one year of fiscal representation, which is legally required if you're applying for your NIF from outside of Portugal or haven’t yet become a resident.

Visa Rental Contract - Legal Check
We can ensure your Rental Contract is compliant.
If you are finding your own rental, but you want to check your ‘Contrato De Arrendamento’ is all above board, we can help.
Our Lawyer will do a legal check of your contract, and highlight anything that is not in line with Portuguese Rental Law or is just plain stupid!
He will also check the landlord is registered with the Tax Authority (Financas).
We also translate the main points of the lease.
